Partly a massive noticeboard, Ryedale DC has numerous links to help people find out about for example sporting activities, provision of allotments, school clothing grants and free school meals.

Ryedale DC is possibly best known for collecting council tax, emptying wheelie bins, and providing a planning service including building control. There is also an environmental service largely involved with protecting public health and safety. This  includes the provision of a wide range of licences from those for market stalls, alcohol/entertainment licences, animal boarding establishments, pet shops and zoos to things like acupuncture and tattooing.

It also runs the Tourist information centres,  provides car parking in the 5 towns for which generally it charges a fee, and has among other services, a Tree and Landscape Officer who advises on all arboricultural matters including Tree Preservation Orders and trees in Conservation Areas. The removal of most rural hedgerows is legally subject to notification to the Council.

Ryedale’s Animal Welfare service provides educational support to encourage responsible animal ownership as well as a confidential service to report dog fouling and strays.  The department also deals with confidential reports on things like dog fouling.

There is a housing service to provide help for the homeless and give advice to tenants and landlords. Ryedale also funds some grants such as help with minor home improvements for those on low incomes. Together with other government organisations it also provides various other types of grants for community groups, businesses and individuals.

Ryedale currently administers Housing and Council Tax benefit on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions.  These are both means-tested benefits.  Before completing an application form (which can be down-loaded) it is possible to check eligibility via the online calculator. Other advice is also available either at the offices or in leaflets.

Details of all the services provided by Ryedale District Council can be found on its website.
